Lagaan Week: A Song for each Picture # 9, Blog Birthday, and a Lagaan post in Filmfare Magazine

As we bring another Lagaan Week to a close, we stay close enough to the theme with the latest installment of the "A Song for each Picture" series. The question, as always: Which Hindi film song(s) does the picture above remind you of?

I hope you've had as much fun reading the Lagaan Week posts as I've had bringing them to you. A big thank you to all who chose to participate with entries of their own! Thanks also to all who commented and read. Sincere thanks to Darshit and Kristine for their encouragement, without which my streak of Lagaan weeks might well have been in jeopardy. Of course, thanks are always in order to all Lagaan Week alumni from prior years. You can view all Lagaan Week entries by clicking here, or the 'Lagaan Exclusives' button which will always grace the sidebar to the right.

In the past, I've served virtual cake (e.g. here and here) to celebrate Lagaan Week. This time around, I have some authentic virtual foods from the state Lagaan was filmed in! Here you go (from the same place -- Vishala Ahmedabad -- I took the picture above). Fit for a king! (I mean for Raja Puran Singh!) Enjoy!

And the condiments too, of course. :)

This June also marks the four-year anniversary of this blog, which I'd conceived and registered in 2005. Thank you to all who read, comment, or follow. Without you, this would be meaningless. Thank you for making it a fun ride. While I've been in and away these past few months, I hope to return a bit more frequently than my 2011 average prior to Lagaan Week would suggest.

Stay tuned.

PS: If you need some Lagaan-related reading material for the day, please see this Lagaan post, which wasn't part of a 'Lagaan Week', but was (kindly) memorialized by Filmfare Magazine in their March 2009 issue (with Katrina Kaif on the cover -- that's an important bit of detail, you see ;) with coverage of this blog. Below is  page 1. Page 2 at this link.

PS again: And just we wrap up, Dolce and Namak has (have, rather) a great post on Lagaan at this link! Check it out!

It reminds me of Laaga Re Jal Laaga from Paheli!
Or something from Jodhaa Akbar perhaps?

And thank you very much for the offerings! I will now virtually savour them. Looks delicious! Well done for completing this year's Lagaan Week. The work you put in for it boggles my mind, truly a labor of love. Respect!

Also, hearty congratulations on your blog's 4th anniversary! Can I just say that your blog is my absolute favourite Bollywood/filmy blog? :) Virtual pat-on-the-back from me!

nurainfarizan: Those are good choices! There's also this other song from Paheli that I'm hoping someone will mention. ;)

Glad you enjoyed the foods! Thank you for all your kind words. I'm humbled, although I'm not sure my blog is deserving of such praise. But thank you! 0:)

The puppets remind me of Kangana Re from Paheli.

Marie said...

And by Kangana Re I obviously mean Phir Raat Kati. Whoops.

Hi Marie! Yes, Phir Raat Kati was the song I had in mind, it must've been so much FUN to be a part of! Love it!

Thank you for your visit and comment. :)

The puppets remind me of the movie with the name I cannot remember propperly.... Nuvvo.... Nono... Neno... No, I will not google that name.... Not Hindi but Indian so I guess it counts... :-)

Hi Anonymous: When you go to http://aamirkhan.com/blog/ and click on 'Sign Up', just be sure to follow the requirements for the account. Is there some sort of error message you're getting? Or are you trying to use special characters in your username? It should work, there haven't been any reported issues there. (As far as I know.) Hope this helps. Cheers.

Anonymous: Have you tried using another web browser to access that activation link? If you continue to have this issue, I'd submit the feedback form there and describe the issue just as you described it above. Here's the link:

I've used it before and gotten a response. Good luck!

You are a terrible, terrible person, bollywoodfan! Never before have I spent so much on a single movie, but this Lagaan week finally pushed me over the edge and made me buy the anniversary box set:

I blame you entirely! :)

theBollywoodFan said...

This is one blame I'll gladly take, my friend. :)

I hope you find, as did I, that the cost of the set is worthwhile. Do report back with what film strip you end up with, that's my favorite bit (in addition to the extras on the DVDs and engraved wooden case).

Enjoy!

Anonymous: I hope your issue has been resolved by now. Good luck!

The anniversary set is AWESOME!! Just beautiful, truly gorgeous. As requested, here's the scene I got on my strip of film.

Really *really* glad you like it! Thanks for sharing that frame, very cool! Well, enjoy watching Lagaan on those DVDs, too. The quality is great. As is, of course, the documentary on the filmmaking. Cheers, and thanks once again!
