Fourth Annual Lagaan Week

It's that time of year again. This year, we celebrate the 10th anniversary of what I've often said is hands-down my favorite film of all time.

Funny how, when you're little, everyone around you seems to complain about time flying. Now it's my turn to say, "Gosh, time flies, it's been 10 years? It feels just like yesterday when I was a sophomore in college, and when Lagaan was released!" I feel old, yes. That's because our very own little Tipu is (probably) in college by now! :D

Jokes aside, it's been 10 years. And 10 years later, Lagaan continues to maintain relevance across cultures, geographies, histories, politics, and film industries. It offers countless lessons of love, hope, faith, struggle, teamwork, collaboration, understanding, innocence, patience, and perseverance. Perhaps most importantly, it serves as a reminder of the importance of saluting belief in goodness.

Lagaan Week this year will see more Lagaan goodness. In addition to recapping some of the highlights from past posts, I'll hypothesize some more (as I've grown accustomed to, by now). Add a couple of special guest posts to the mix, and I hope you enjoy this edition of Lagaan Week as much as I enjoyed bringing it to you.

As always, Lagaan Week is open to any and all contributions. If you're a blogger, please join in the fun and leave a comment to this post with a link to your article -- I'll be more than glad to feature it in.

Enjoy! And if you're still reading this blog, I thank you. It's that year in which it's all happening. If Lagaan didn't bring me back to the blog, nothing would. Such a fairy tale in so many ways.

Best wishes always,

Ooooh, Lagaan week! I just realized recently that I haven't reviewed/discussed a lot of the great films I'd seen before I started my blog, including Lagaan, which was one of my first films. When my obsession with Hindi film was still fledgling, Lagaan launched my love for Aamir Khan, cricket and Hindi period pieces. I'll definitely have to work up a post now that I know you have a Lagaan week going on. :)

Dear BWF!

How not to stop for a moment to launch three "Cheers!" to mark the 10th Anniversary of Lagaan?
I think you said it all. But I would add just this: "Lagaan, is more than a film that you watch, it's a great story that we live and which one never tires of living and reliving. A gem of cinema, surely that will shine for many generations.

Hat & Long Life to AKP.

& warm greetings to you dear BWF, with my best wishes from a rainy but happy Southern France! :)

Suja: Thank you for sharing that, and yes, most definitely pertinent to the topic! I'd agree on Aamir's filmography and soundtracks. Find all anyone may, the excellence and completeness of Lagaan is difficult to match. Thank you again for your visit and comment.
