Salman, Katrina, and Anil in Yuvvraaj

Came across an intriguing piece at this BBC link. After reading the first couple of paragraphs under 'Bollywood inspired', my vote for the most silly but funny text message to someone fancied might just go to this (not!): Tu meri hai Pepsi Cola, Main tera hoon Coca Cola (you are my Pepsi Cola, I am your Coca Cola; right...). Anyone remember which film it's from? Here's a hint: It starred Salman Khan and an actress with the initials KK.

Speaking of Salman and KK, Yuvvraaj is scheduled to release on November 21. ('Yuvraaj', with a single 'v', means 'prince'.) Also starring Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor, Zayed Khan, and Boman Irani. Among the many reasons to look forward to it are that it's a film by Shubhash Ghai, with music by A. R. Rahman and lyrics by Gulzar. The choreography is by Shiamak Davar, whose past works include Taare Zameen Par (2007), Saawariya (2007), Taal (1999), and Dil To Paagal Hai (1997).

Per the filmmaker here, it "is about the over-confidence of today's youth. Every one wants to be a rock star, regardless of whether they have the morals to go with the appellation". Interesting. I'm really looking forward to it after seeing these first two trailers (you can also see them at the official website noted at the bottom of this post). Here's the teaser, in which Katrina's looking mighty hot, especially in her first frame:

And here's the one featuring Salman and Katrina:

The soundtrack releases in about a week, and I'll hope to share commentary on it soon. I guess Tu Hi To Meri Dost Hai (only you are my friend) would be too sophisticated for a text message, but given it's a Salman flick, there will surely be some silly but genuinely funny one liners, don't you think?

Wait. There are morals to go along with the appellation "rock star?" Um, like what? :-p Even if I had the opportunity to see this in theaters, I'd definitely still be waiting for the DVD.

Interesting article. My favorite text message from the article was this:

"Hello my sweet luvn sugar coated choco mallow milky shaky honey dipped chiz meltin orange juicy mozzarella pepperoni spicy icy friend, how r U?"

I think it might have been more effective with a few less food groups included.

Hi Ajnabi: I think so, yes! Rock stars with morals are cool :) I've enjoyed countless movies with this cast and crew, so I'm there day one. Ghai's talking of Salman the actor versus Salman the entertainer, and it'll be great to see him in a role that allows him to use both.

Hi Cindy: That's a good one, eh? Although incomplete without mango! And yes, it would be nice to save some food groups for later. Then again, there's always Pepsi and Coke to fill the void, LOL...thank you for stopping by! Do come again.

That's from "Judwa"! 2 sallus for the price of one :)Thats such a nutty article :)

Totally enthu about Yuvraj now- they all look so good- and i am digging the production values. Like Ajnabi though, am worried about the "rock star line. Also have been watching the "Hello" commercials, and Salman appears just so ANIMATED! Its like watching a 3D Johnny Bravo anime :)

Biwi No. 1 with Salman and Karishma?

theBollywoodFan said...

Shweta: You got it! From Judwaa it is, the song Tan Tana Tan. 3D Johnny Bravo anime sounds right! Salman and Katrina have special appearances in Hello...I doubt there's anyone better to play rock star than him. Although the rock star in Yuvvraaj will be one of Salman, Anil, or Zayed.

Memsaab: Great try, and you got the pairing right! I don't remember much of Biwi No. 1, maybe should try revisiting.

I don't think I've seen Judwaa :-) And probably won't for some time...until I run out of films from the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s, which will take a while.

theBollywoodFan said...

LOL, Memsaab. Judwaa will be remembered for many reasons. It wasn't bad, but not very good either, so I wouldn't think you'd be missing out :)

hahaha. tu mera hai pepsi... interesting article.

Hi Saurabh: I had to share it, especially since it had the Bollywood reference. :)

Thanks for stopping by!

I love Judwaa! My fave line is the one where Sallu 1 bumps into Sallu 2 and says in typical tapori accent- Ey! Tu mere jaisa thobda kidhar se leke aya re? Hilarious! I remember Bindu as the over-excitable mom, she was awesome too :-D

I don't think I will watch Yuvraaj tho. I used to love Ghai's movies (Karz, Ram Lakhan, Karma, Hero) but after the debacle known as Yaadein I cannot handle his direction.

What exactly does Yuvraaj mean?

theBollywoodFan said...

Hi Pitu: Yes, that was hilarious and memorable. I need to revisit Judwaa, though, because there's so much I don't remember of it. It's been a while.

I'll give Ghai the benefit of the doubt for now, if only because of the cast and crew. Yaadein could have been so much better, completely agreed.

Hi Anonymous: 'Yuvraaj' means crown prince. I think the context in which it will be used is best indicated by the Shubhash Ghai interview linked to in the post.

Thanks for your comments!

Don't u think Lolo and Sallu made a great pair? They had awesome chemistry in all the films they appeared in, incl. Andaz Apna Apna (loved the eyelash fluttering scenes), Biwi no 1 and Judwaa. I wish Lolo would make a comeback. I am looking fwd to catching her on Nach Baliye 4 (she's a judge).

Oh, Lolo and Sallu were great together! I think it'd be fair to say they easily kept up with Aamir and Raveena in Andaz Apna Apna -- and that's saying a lot! Funny you mention it, because I just saw AAA again this weekend. Those eye fluttering scenes are amazingly well done! :D

Let's hope Lolo decides to make a comeback sometime soon! And thanks for that note on Nach Baliye. I'll be on the look out for it.

I thought AK-SK were equally good but Lolo was way better than Ravs. That movie is just too funny!!!! And SK plays a complete duffer :-D Remember that famous dialog:

Dekho! Jo main hoon wo, wo hai
Jo wo hai, wo main hoon
Jo main hoon, wo wo nahi hai
Jo wo hain, main wo nahi hoon

SK: Accha? Main main hoon, ya main bhi main nahi hoon?

I will be publishing posts every week after NB episodes :-D

Agreed on Lolo being the better actor of the two heroines in AAA, although Ravs could never do any wrong in my eyes, haye Allah.

ROTFL at that dialog, it *is* priceless. I'll save more commentary for the review, but it's held on to its appeal over the years, one of the all time greats.

I'll look forward to your Nach Baliye posts!
