Eid Mubarak!

Warm hugs, a.k.a. jaadoo ki jhappis (TM Munnabhai M.B.B.S.) and wishes your way, complete with a prayer for peace and prosperity for all who mean well. Bollywood has some Eid presents lined up, which I'll save for Thursday.

Here is a post from this time last year with a great Eid song starring Salman Khan and Sushmita Sen. Here is a lyrically superior Eid song by Jagjit Singh and Chitra Singh that captures the essence of the tyohaar (Hindi/Urdu) or tehvaar (Urdu), i.e. festival, or any other religious festival, for that matter. And what better way to capture the uncertainty involved in the sighting of the new moon (not even Mohan types can provide absolute assurance) than Bollywood theatrics devoted to it? The beautifully choreographed Yun Shabnami from Saawariya (2007), featuring the beautiful Sonam Kapoor, did that well, about two minutes into this video.

With Sheer Korma wishes and Biryaani dreams.

And for what it's worth, here's an Eid gift for you -- Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan (who was responsible for this, of course) in my only drawing with color. Hastily done in about 1.5 times the run time of an average Bollywood film, so do excuse the carelessness :o)

Untitled (2001)

My rendition of this, combined with a picture (in a random book, don't recall which) of the younger Shah Jehan.

Eid Mubarak BollywoodFan! Thanks for recommending those songs, though my favorites would have to be Yoon Shabnami and this Eid-themed song.

Tina Munim shares quite the resemblance with Amrita Rao, don't you think?

Thank you Nicki, Bollyviewer, and Salek! Hope you all had a good one!

Bollyviewer: Yes, they were indeed more than just dreams. We celebrated it on Wednesday here, and I guess I was wishing and dreaming of the foods a day in advance :)

Salek: Thanks for that Eid song, I wasn't aware of it. With those two vocalists, one can never go wrong! That's an interesting contrast you have between Tina Munim and Amrita Rao. I wonder if that translates over to their movies too...that'd be interesting to keep an eye out for!

Best wishes.
