And India's entry to the Oscars is...

...hardly a surprise, ladies and gents. From this piece:

Aamir Khan's directorial debut Taare Zameen Par will be India's official entry for the Oscar 81st annual Academy awards for the best foreign film, the jury announced in Mumbai on Saturday.

Other films in fray for selection were critically acclaimed Marathi films Valu and Tingya, Nishikant Kamat's Mumbai Meri Jaan, Neeraj Pandey's A Wednesday, Ashutosh Gowarikar's Jodhaa Akbar, Farhan Akhtar's Rock On!, Subhash Ghai's Black and White and Telugu film Ghanyam.

Here is a piece with Aamir Khan's thoughts. In other news, I know what I'm getting me for Eid this year! The largest I've built had 4000 pieces, and this has close to 6000! You might recall a picture from Legoland California in this post; this project will take about as much time as the drawing did. But...yippee! Chhota Akbar would be proud to explore it!

Until next time.

I'm a little surprised Jodhaa-Akbar didn't make it, but then I haven't had the chance to see TZP (grrrrr) so I don't really have a grid to judge. Still, I'm glad TZP made the entry!

After TZP, I think Jodhaa Akbar would have been a very good choice. I would not have been too surprised if it was, too. The former, though, has done to India and Indians what many of the best brains in academia and medicine couldn't. For that, and for the universality of its theme, I think it's a great choice. Hoping it makes the final cut of nominations in the Best Foreign Film category.

So that's Lagaan, Rang De Basanti, and TZP now for Aamir this decade :)

Nicki and Pitu: Thanks for stopping by. Let's hope, coupled with the Disney release here in the U.S., that it makes the short list. It certainly deserves, at the very least, nomination in the final few.

Cheers!
