Pyaasa lyrics and translation: Hum Aap Ki Aankhon Mein

Following up to this post, shall be sharing more of my translations to songs from Pyaasa (1957) this week. Here is the song Hum Aap Ki Aankhon Mein, with vocals by Mohammad Rafi and Geeta Dutt. Is it just me, or was this part of the inspiration behind the visuals in the song Woh Ladkhi Hai Kahaan in Dil Chahta Hai (2001)?

Here are the lyrics and my translation:

Without a doubt it's the inspiration for that part of WLHK! How fun to see the original piece. Thanks for digging it up!

Hi Ajnabi: Thank you for your comment. The similarities are amazing, aren't they? WLHK has drawn inspiration from others as well, hope to run into them some day :)

I love this song and the picturisation and have always wondered why people dont waltz in such misty environs more often! lol

You've done a great job of translation. One small correction though - the third line should be In zulfon mein gundenge hum phool mohabbat ke which in this context can roughly translate as In these locks I will weave flowers of love.

Here's to more misty environs!

Thanks for the translation. I love this song! Isn't this song in Faana? When they are in the kitchen singing songs back and forth, I think she sings part of this one. Thanks again. Great site!

Hi Laurel: Thank you for your kind comments. I share your thoughts on the song!

And yes, it was indeed featured in Fanaa, and the scene you're referring to went from the living room to the kitchen, which is exactly where Kajol sang part of it! Right on!

Thank you for stopping by. Do come again. :)

Hi and many thanks for the lyrics and your excellent English translation...this will help my daughter to understand thismagical song! Only one correction tho'
..the female singer is actually Geeta Dutt (Guru Dutt's wife) and a reknowned singer of her time...check her out on! x

Like your blog :) I too try to translate songs now and then but am too lazy to do much!

Would add one thing - "udaa dena" is also slang for "destroy" which perhaps works better in the context of the song - she means to reply "how would you be able to bring me into your dreams, if I were to destroy the very sleep from your eyes?"
