1947 Earth lyrics and translation: Ishwar Allah

This and the review of 1947 Earth (1998) are published concurrently. The song Ishwar Allah played with the end credits, following a rather shocking (but fitting) end to the film. Beautiful all-round, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar that ask the Hindu and Muslim deities a series of questions, all centered around the violence that accompanied the partition of 1947 (and perhaps a reference to the riotous situations across the sub-continent today?).

With music by A. R. Rahman, and vocals by Anuradha Sriram and Sujata, here is the song:

It's been a while since I've seen Earth but I know I was impress with Aamir, like always. :) I saw it when it first came out with out English subs...that means I have to get another copy or something. You can not go wrong with Aamir + Nandita + Rahul Khanna.

Hi Nicki: It'll be a different viewing experience with the subtitles, for sure -- the dialogue is worth paying attention to. Agree about not going wrong with the cast! Cheers!
