Unforgettable Week: Amitabh Bachchan and Neetu Singh in Chhu Kar Mere Mann Ko

Three days to the Unforgettable Tour show here in Los Angeles.

One of the countless examples of creative excellence in Rang De Basanti (2006) was the placement of the song Chhu Kar Mere Mann Ko with a slight variation. DJ (Aamir Khan) and friends were bowled over by Sue (Alice Patten) (here's where they met), and the one song they would sing to lighten the mood every once in a while was 'Sue Kar, Mere Mann Ko'. It sounded excellent and funny when I first saw the film. And those qualities have not diminished. Of course, the popularity of the original song prompted its use 25 years later. And that original song is the subject of this post.

From the film Yaarana (1981), with music by Rajesh Roshan, lyrics by Anjaan, and vocals by Kishore Kumar. The film starred Amitabh Bachchan, Neetu Singh, Aruna Irani, Amjad Khan, Tanuja and others.

Here is the song (thank you Sita-ji for the link to the video):

And here are the lyrics and my translation. Enjoy!

Adab theBollywoodFan! FANTASTIC! Sukriya for the translation. I could vaguely sense that the lyrics were lovely, and now thanks to you, we non Hindi speakers know the lyrics are lovely. Another translation well done. I now must see Yaarana. Loved to hear that Madhuri's favorite Amitabh picturization is Kishore Kumar's Chhu Kar Mere Mann Ko. Maybe at the upcoming L.A. show he'll cover it, "singing" it to her!

All the best,

Adab Sita-ji! Thank you for your kind words, and you are very welcome. It is such a good song, and it's brevity doesn't hurt it. I haven't seen Yaarana either, but think it will be interesting.

It would be very very cool if Amitabh and Madhuri were involved in this on stage...who knows?!
