Have a good start to the week, everyone!
Addendum 7/22:
Until we hear more from Aamir, here is some information on the release in North America from this Times of India piece:
In a first of its kind deal, Walt Disney has bought home video rights of Taare Zameen Par for the North American market. This is the first time an international studio has bought the video rights of an Indian film.
Wish there was more discussion around the background score. Its music has retained its freshness through the months, and given that the only musical instrument I play is the harmonica, I cannot wait to get my hands on this set :) Here are a few links related to the music:
- Listen to the songs at this link.
- This post has a couple music reviews.
- Lots more, including lyrics and translation, at TaareZameenPar.com.
And I'll end with one of my favorite pieces of music from the film, Ishaan's Theme. Quite a wonder, ain't it?

Addendum 7/24:
The official launch is on 7/25. Here's more. This is a video of the review noted above.
Addendum 7/25:
Here is a piece (and picture source) on the DVD release. Per Aamir's latest blog post, the DVD release in the U.S. will take at least another three months (expected, see my comments below).

And a big thank you to fellow Aamirian Skorpionchik for sharing this!

You know. I didn't even know the dvd wasn't released yet because it was at my local video rental store (Hollywood) so I got it. The quality is really good too.
Hi Nicki: That's really interesting. As far as I know, this is the first time the DVD was/is being released. Unless they had a special release for rental stores (which I doubt, given how Aamir's been discussing it at his blog).
In any case, this DVD is so feature-packed, I cannot wait to get my hands on it!
Yesssss! I am so happy--you gave me a great start to my week. :-D
Hi Ajnabi: Thanks for stopping by. It is well worth looking forward to. Of course, I'll hope to review it as soon as I get my hands on it :)
Just what we need---the disneyfication of bollywood.
I'll make sure I get my hands on an Indian version :-D
Hi Memsaab: Not sure what to think about this Disney deal. Concerned it's not going to be as feature-packed as the one released in India by T-Series. Besides, it might well take longer to release here.
The Disney Home Entertainment release calendar has no signs of it, and one of their representatives had no clue about it either.
We'll learn soon enough on Aamir's blog...
As a follow-up to my own comments...
The Disney DVD is going to take much longer to release. See bottom of the post.
Had a chat session with Aamir bhai this morning (yes!)...the film will not be edited at all, and it's only the distribution rights, which is good. No word yet on whether all the specials will be included...I am going to have both versions reviewed here, of course :)
