Rock On Lyrics and Translation: Phir Dekhiye

This note added 8/31/2008: Here's my Rock On movie review.

The soundtrack I least expected to surprise me this summer has managed to do that to an extent. Hope to review the music to the upcoming film Rock On soon. With lyrics by Javed Akhtar and music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, one of my favorite songs from the album and the subject of this post -- Phir Dekhiye -- has vocals by newcomer Caralisa Monteiro.

What a fine performance! This is not the easiest to sing, with acoustics emphasizing the vocals. The lyrics are as good as one would expect from a film structured around a rock group. In this song, I really like that the lyrics offer depth in simplicity. The song has a positive message (one we shall certainly understand better after seeing the film), and I like the way it ends (the words 'khwaab bun' remind me of Bum Bum Bole from Taare Zameen Par). It might even work as a response to another good song from a good movie!

Here are the lyrics and my translation. You can listen to the other songs from the album at this link.

Hi Ajnabi: Glad you liked the song. Some of the other songs in the album are nice too. I'll be discussing the rest of the music tonight, hopefully :)

I got the soundtrack last night and didn't have time to listen to it on my iPod until this morning, immediately fell in love with this melody and the vocal so I decided to search for the lyrics and perhaps the translation for the lyrics. (Oh... did I mention? I'm a Chinese girl who's fascinated by the Indian culture) Then... here I am in your blog! Thank you so much for putting this up! I'll stay tuned to your blog and definitely will visit more~ =)

Hi, Brooke, and thank you for your comment! Have you seen the movie yet?

It's great when one can cross the cultural barrier through film, or in fandom of a specific film industry. I hope you find Bollywood complements your 'fascination with Indian culture'! Know it works both ways! And thank you for making Indian cinema what it is. :)

Do visit again. And thank you again!

Thank you Marienkäfer, and welcome to the blog! I'm glad the translation could be of some use. It's an absolute pleasure to be writing about what we all so love, and I agree, there's always more room for Bollywood to gain more popularity with audiences all over! Cheers.
