[This note added 7/22: Celebrating Unforgettable Week at my blog, see this post for more.]
Saw Recount by HBO Films last night. Florida by 537 votes, an incomplete recount, the writ of certiorari, and protection from precedence. Saving the dimpled ad flier for an excellent portrayal of what followed the 2000 U.S. Presidential elections.
Been about a week and a half since I moved to Los Angeles. I have learned, through this and other interstate moves, that I have a much easier and less stressful time moving across countries than across states. I have learned that Los Angeles will be slightly colder than I expected -- it was 57 degrees a couple of days ago, and I had my cardigans out when I only needed them for a couple of January weeks in Miami. And I have learned that I shall enjoy the Bollywood quotient in Los Angeles more than I thought I would (it might not be the highest in the U.S., but it is a lot stronger than anywhere in Florida)!
Got tickets to see the self-proclaimed (in my eyes) King of Politics in Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan, at The Unforgettable Tour! The L.A. stop of the Tour is on July 26, and tickets to the L.A. Sports Arena event are on sale via Ticketmaster. The shows will include Preity Zinta, Madhuri Dixit, Vishal-Shekhar, Ritesh Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, and Akshay Kumar (only Toronto gets Akshay). Since the Big B started blogging, I have wished he would talk more about films and what he likes over their inverse. Why someone of his stature feels he still has something to prove, I shall never understand. Still, I would like to think I am going to go see the Amit-ji that I grew up admiring.
Today, I might not primarily belong to his camp of fans (the keyword being 'primarily'), but this is not about one camp versus another (much like the upcoming U.S. Presidential elections are not about red states versus blue states). This is about one Bollywood (a term Amit-ji despises). He is undoubtedly one of Bollywood's all-time greats, and I was not about to let an opportunity to see him live in concert pass. So I hope to be more of a glass aadha bhara (half-full) kinda guy (unlike Amit-ji on his blog), and be there. Besides, I have an alias to live up to!
Of course, it might just be that I find the prospect of seeing Madhuri Dixit and my favorite Dil Chahta Hai (2001) lady Shalini, err...Preity Zinta, a lot more appealing ;)
So very excited! More on the Tour in July.
