Hollywood meets Bollywood here in Miami

The only reason this makes it to my blog is that the song that is the subject of this post -- titled Hollywood meets Bollywood -- was recorded right here in my present home city of Miami, as the filming for Dostana, starring John Abraham, Priyanka Chopra and Abhishek Bachchan, is in full swing. For posts related to the film Dostana, see this link. From this news story:

Musical history was made in Miami last week when Abhishek got together with rapper Wyclef Jean for a track called 'Hollywood Meets Bollywood' to pay a tribute to Hindi cinema and his legendary father Amitabh Bachchan.

Abhishek sang naughty patriotic words like "Main yahan ka desi don" and "Khai ke banarsi paan", drawing a direct and delectable reference to the senior Bachchan's in the 1978 hit Don.

Now this last statement is setting a new benchmark for a journalistic low. How on earth does 'Main yahaan ka desi don' or 'khai ke banarsi paan' equate to patriotic? Naughty, I understand. But patriotic? Give us a break! More on the song:

On March 29, not only did Wyclef Jean specially ask for Abhishek to do a track, he also flew down from his home in New York to Miami to record with Abhishek and composer Aadesh Shrivastava for a new album that will release in India in May.

Now, I am not a big Abhishek Bachchan fan at all, but I must say that I truly enjoyed Bluffmaster (2005) and the song Ek mein aur ek tu hai, a hip-hop track that he sung along with Sunidhi Chauhan. If this song can come close to that (the only reason it might not is that there doesn't seem to be, from what information is out there, that there is a female vocalist involved, let alone the likes of Sunidhi Chauhan), it would be nice indeed.

On to more significant goings on in the filmi world.

Looks like Bollywood will be meeting Hollywood in Hollywood. It seems that Los Angeles is the next city to host a big-budget Bollywood production, and Hollywood celebrities might very well be starring alongside their counterparts from India. More details in the following article…

Thank you for sharing the interesting story Salek! I'm excited that Kareena Kapoor will be shooting in LA! Yay! But Karan Johar ought to understand that LA or New York are very very different (in a good way) from Miami, which has a relatively small desi population.

Either way, it should be great!
