Aamir Khan accepts award from Lata. Limping. Okay.

Just saw a little clip on TV of Aamir Khan attending an awards ceremony, for once. This for the prestigious Dinanath Mangeshkar award for his services to Indian cinema. Given the source of the awards, no surprise at all that he chose to attend and show his respect. This the day he suffered the injury on the sets of Ghajini. When asked of his condition, he said: "Yeah, yeah, I am a little better [now]". Whew. He looked in good spirits, but was obviously limping onto the stage, as he proceeded to collect the award for his services to Indian cinema. From the following news piece:

The award was presented by melody queen Lata Mangeshkar to Aamir Khan on Thursday. The award has been instituted by Lata and her siblings to honour their late father, actor-singer Dinanath Mangeshkar, on his 66th death anniversary.

Lata who is quite a fan of the actor says that the actor stands for certain principles for which she admires him. Pandit Hridayanath Mangeshkar, Lata`s brother and well-known music director said, "Aamir Khan doesn`t accept awards. In fact, he tries his best to stay away from such events. But he has made an exception about the Master Dinanath Mangeshkar award and we are happy about it".

The fact that Aamir Khan sent a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to Lata when she started a super-speciality hospital in Pune a few years ago was also not lost on the Mangeshkars. "Latadidi had written to all top film personalities seeking financial assistance. Not a single donation came from Bollywood, except from Aamir. He sent us a cheque for the children`s ward," said Hridayanath.

The other Bollywood biggies who have received the prestigious award in the past are Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan.

Like this last bit about Aamir being mentioned with the likes of Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan...about time!
