Victoria No. 203 -- comic relief exemplified

Saw Victoria No. 203 last night. Starring Anupam Kher, Om Puri, Jimmy Shergill, Preeti Jhangiani, and Javed Jafri, it was cool to watch a comic flick with some cool and relatively clean comedy, for a change. Nothing unusual here, just some good old fashioned comedic fun injected into a serious plot, the Bollywood way. The film, as you might guess, is a remake of the original movie with the same name, released back in the 1970s. I have not seen that, so it would not be fair to comment on that one.

If you are looking for sensible cinema, look elsewhere. However, if you enjoy good performances in comic roles, and if you are up for a good laugh, then you would definitely want to check it out. This one is decently made (enough to have one tag along and not hit the fast forward button) and has two very good performances: by Om Puri and Anupam Kher.

Suffice it to say that Victoria No. 203 offers above average fun for family viewing. The jokes are in good taste and are such that everyone will find them funny. Comic relief and timing are well above average too. Worth watching once if you're not too picky about the usual melodrama that accompanies such films.

Movie Rating: **1/2 (ABOVE AVERAGE)
Anupam Kher and Om Puri make this one worth our while.

My Classification: PG-13 (For one song only. Relatively clean otherwise)
