Aamir & Madhuri rock Deewana Mujh Sa Nahin

Saw Deewana Mujh Sa Nahin (1990) last night. Starring Aamir Khan and Madhuri Dixit, the movie crew pulls off a simple plot to keep one focussed! Of course, when you have Aamir and Madhuri, you don't expect any less. Well made with some decent songs (the title track, 'Deewana Mujh Sa Nahin' was the pick of the lot). Ditto to the shayar in the movie, with some excellent poetic comedy.

Now, here are a couple of parallels I drew to Aamir Khan's more recent work. There's a scene involving Aamir getting on his knees and saying something like, "Mein tumharey liye bana hoon aur tum mere liye". Now...remember the club scene with Aamir and Preity Zinta in the movie Dil Chahta Hai (2001)? How cool to see that around 11 years later.

There's also a piece where Aamir offers a villain chikki. Now, all of us Aamir Khan aficionados know that there was a certain song, 'Aati Kya Khandala' from the movie Ghulam (1998) with Aamir and Rani Mukherjee, in which Aamir sings, "Lonavlay mein chikki khayenge waterfall pe jaayenge". Sweet, eh?

A word on Madhuri Dixit. As we move through the years, we begin to forget how truly great an actress she was in her hey day. No, wait, even in her last major movie, Devdas (2002), Madhuri clearly stole the show in a movie in which Aishwarya Rai was given a better role. Madhuri Dixit...we miss you!

Movie Rating: **** (VERY GOOD!)

My Classification: U/G

Watch it if: you can find it, you want to find focus in the simple plot.

Definitely watch it if: you are fan of Aamir or Madhuri or both. They're fantastic together!
